Bromsgrove School: A British Classic with Global Ambition
July 26, 2025

I had the pleasure of visiting Bromsgrove School yesterday and meeting with the admissions team. With a proud history dating back to 1553, Bromsgrove is one of the UK’s oldest and most respected schools — but what impressed me most is how forward-looking and globally minded it is today.
Located on a beautiful 100-acre campus in Worcestershire, Bromsgrove offers a full and vibrant boarding experience. Over 600 of its 1,700 students are boarders, creating a strong sense of community that extends well beyond the classroom. The school is proudly international, welcoming students from across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and beyond. But importantly — and this is something Chinese families should note — Bromsgrove is not aiming to increase the number of students from any single country. The admissions team is focused on maintaining a balanced and diverse student body, and places for students from China are highly competitive. Families should plan well ahead and prepare thoroughly.
Academically, Bromsgrove is outstanding. In 2024, nearly half of all A-level results were A* or A, and the average IB score was an impressive 39.2. Students regularly progress to top UK universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and UCL, as well as leading institutions abroad.
The facilities are exceptional — from a modern International College that helps new overseas students adjust, to university-level science labs, a theatre, and extensive sports facilities. The school even owns its own prep schools, offering a complete educational journey.
In a changing UK boarding school market, Bromsgrove’s strategy is clear: protect the integrity of full boarding, maintain high academic standards, and continue to attract bright, well-rounded students from all over the world. For Chinese families seeking a truly British education with a global perspective, Bromsgrove is an excellent — and competitive — option.
